How GeoGallery works

Shopify Markets and Translate & Adapt localize your text, prices and domains, but every market still sees the same product images. GeoGallery lets you show a different image to customers in a particular country, or to customers browsing your store in a particular language.

Typical uses are local packaging, size charts, compliance labels, models and infographics with text in them.

  1. Your images. You add localized versions of a product’s images to the product’s media, with a two-letter code at the start of the filename, for example FR_shirt.jpg next to shirt.jpg. See Naming your images.
  2. The GeoGallery block. A block you add to your theme’s product page. It reads the filenames, works out which images this visitor should see, and hides the rest. See Theme setup.
  3. Your plan. The block only runs while your store has an active plan. On the Free plan it runs on up to 3 products. See Plans & billing.
  • A French-language visitor sees FR_shirt.jpg in place of shirt.jpg.
  • Images that have no localized version stay visible to everyone, so you only need to localize the images that need it.
  • Images for other codes (for example DE_shirt.jpg when the visitor is French) are hidden.
  • A visitor with no matching images sees your default (un-prefixed) images.

Whether “French” means the storefront language or the customer’s country is up to you: see Country vs language.

GeoGallery can make them for you. AI image translation translates the text in your product images, and you approve each one before it’s added to the product.
